The holiday season is, sadly, coming to an end. With the new year just around the corner, we take the opportunity to spend quality time with our loved ones. Before we officially ‘wrap up’ the season, I would like to share a few of my favorite things about the season and some of my family’s holiday traditions. In my family, we choose to celebrate Christmas. When my family celebrates Christmas, the celebration begins on Christmas Eve, we eat tons of food, dance to cheesy Christmas music and countdown to midnight. We all exchange and open gifts at midnight, Christmas Day. In Mexico, where my family is originally from, we call this nochebuena, meaning “the good night.” Some of my favorite things about this holiday season was dressing up to go to holiday parties and attending them, shopping for gifts for all of my family, watching the Ballet Nutcracker, gift wrapping, and attending the several posadas in my family; posadas is a nine day religious observance where people get together and have dinners, exchange gifts, and celebrate the upcoming holiday. I will definitely miss the holidays, but I am looking forward to see what this new year has in store for me.
